November 2019

TAG:  IONAD SLÁINTE/Health Centre, Baile Mhúirne,  Maighchromtha, Co. Chorcaí.

A Aire Dhíl,

Tá cónaí orm i nGaeltacht Mhúscraí agus is údar mhór imní dom todhchaí ár Ionad Sláinte. I live in Gaeltacht Mhúscraí, and  I am very concerned about the future of our Health Centre.

Táim ag scriobh ar mo shon féin agus ar shon dhaoine atá róghnóthach, nó róthraochta, suí síos  agus peann a chuir le paipeár mar is iad na príomh chúramóirí do dhuine eigean atá breoite sa tigh leo. I am writing not only on my own behalf but on behalf of people who are too busy, or just worn out, to have time to sit down to write as they are the primary carers for a loved one in their home.

Is iad na h-udair imní a bhaineann lenár ionad sláinte ná: The concerns for our Health Centre are:

Níor ceapadh Altra Sláinte Phoiblí inár cheantar ó d’imigh Ellen O’Leary ar phinsean i bhFeabhra 2019.  Níl aon eolas againn faoi chén uair a cheapfar duine sa phost seo.  Níl fhios againn an mbeidh an té atá le ceapadh suite san Ionad Sláinte áitiúil i mBaile Mhúirne.  We have not had a Public Health Nurse appointed to our area since Ellen Ó Leary retired in February 2019.  We have no information as to when someone will be appointed.  We have no information as to whether the nurse will be based in the local Health Centre.

An toradh ar an easpa seo ná: The consequence of this gap in services is that;

·         Ní raibh cuairteanna caighdeánacha agus measúnaithe ag máthracha le leanaí nua-bheirthe, seirbhísí atá an ghá ag leanaí leo. Is seirbhís riachtanach é seo atá ag teastáil ó mháthracha nua agus a bpáistí agus is údar imní mhór an easnamh. mothers with new babies have not had standard visits and assessments that are so vital to babies.   This is a serious and vital service to new mothers and their babies.

·         Ní bhionn seirbhís ar fáil nuair atá an gá is mó leis. Tá bearnaí sa seirbhís, seirbhís ar cheart bheith comhtháite agus cuimsitheach, mar shampla nuair atá othar á thabhairt abhaile agus nuair atá soláthairtí leighis agus soláthairti riachtanacha eile (táirgí neamhchoinneálachta mar shampla). the fragile service breaks down when it is most needed.  There are gaps in the ‘joined up service’ that is needed when bringing a patient home, getting essential supplies (incontinence supplies for instance)

  • Tá gá comhordnú a dhéanamh ar chúram maolaitheacha, ag soláthar ar son bhreoiteachtaí seasta agus daoine le míchumais.  Tá ar ár n-eolas teaghlaigh atá sa bhaile agus iad ag iarraidh aire a thabhairt dá ngaolta breoite sa bhaile agus bionn orthu glaoch ar an uimhir seo nó an uimhir sin agus iad ag lorg freagraí ar cheisteanna a bhaineann leis an gcúram atá á thabhairt sa bhaile. Coordinating palliative care, providing for chronic illnesses and people with disabilities.  We know of families that have been, and are, trying to mind their loved ones at home and have been left ringing this number and that number trying to get answers to essential care.
  • Tá brú ar ár ndochtúir mar atá sé agus anuas ar an ualach oibre sin, tá sí ag iarraidh a post féin a dhéanamh agus na bearnaí a líonadh.  Our doctor, already stretched in her work, is also left to try fill in the gaps, while also doing her own job.

Cad atá ag teastáil uainn – seo iad ár riachtanaisí láithreacha: What we want: Our immediate pressing needs are:

  • Go gceapfaí Altra Sláinte Phoiblí gan a thuilleadh moille. That a Public Health Nurse is appointed immediately.
  •  Go mbeadh an Altra Sláinte Phoibli seo san Ionad Sláinte i mBaile Mhúirne – ní leor go mbeadh an Altra suite i Maigh Chromtha le freastal a dhéanamh ar ár bpobal. That the Public Health Nurse will be based in the Health Centre in Ballyvourney and not servicing our community from Macroom.

·         Tá cónaí orainn i gceantar Ghaeltachta. Tá seirbhís ónár bpobal a dhéanann freastal ar ár mbun riachtanaisí. Ciallaíonn seo nach féidir leis an Altra Slainte Phoiblí bheith bunaithe ar uimhreacha leo féin. Ni mór riar a dhéanamh ar ár riachtanaisí sláinte agus, anuas ar sin, tacú le caomhnú an cheantair mar Ghaeltacht. Is cuid de pholasaí an Rialtais é an choimitmint seo nó tá sé san áireamh go gcuirfí seirbhísí riachtnacha ar fáil trí mheán na Gaeilge sa Ghaeltacht. Ní leor dúinn seirbhísí lárnaithe ó Mhaigh Chromtha, seirbhisí nach mbeadh trí mheán na Gaeilge.  We live in a Gaeltacht area:  Our community needs a service that meets our basic needs.  This means that allocating a public health nurse cannot be just based on numbers. It needs to serve our health needs but it must also meet our need to sustain our Gaeltacht area.  This commitment is part of government policy within the Language Plans to provide services through Irish.  We cannot just have centralised services from Macroom.

Is é ár gcomhairle sa mheán téarma ná: Our advice for the medium term is:

Pobal tuaithe sinn is táimid ag fás. Agus obair ag tosnú ar an seachbhothar nua timpeall ar Mhaigh Chromtha, beidh níos mó daoine arís ag teacht chun cónaithe inár bpobal. Ní mór cur leis an soláthar sa cheantar seachas a bheith ag baint de. We have a growing rural community.   As work begins on the new Macroom by-pass we will have even more people living in this community.  Instead of withdrawing services from this area, the provision needs to be expanded.

Deirtear linn nach bhfuil ár Ionad Sláinte áitiúil leor dhothanach de réir cuinsi measunú sláinte agus sábhailteacht chun riar a dhéanamh ar na riachtanais sa cheantar.  Is féidir linn cabhrú. Labhair linn. Tabhair treoir duinn faoi na rudai atá ag teastáil. Pobal ‘Is féidir linn’ isea sinn. Is féidir teacht ar réiteach. We are told our existing health centre may not be adequate, from a health and safety viewpoint, to meet the needs in the area.  Let us help.  Talk to us.  Give us a steer as to what is needed.   We are a can-do community.  A solution can be found.

Le meas,
